About Us

Welcome to Mettabolic, a blog by Gelseigh, Lianna, Steven, Abby, Avi and Maria.

We live in Metta House, a special interest community (SIC) at Columbia University that supports healthy and sustainable living, specifically through what and how we eat. The house is entirely vegetarian, and together we live as a co-op: sharing all of our groceries and practicing a cooking rotation, with a different member of the suite cooking each night of the week. After a hectic day of class and work, there is little better than sitting down to a fresh meal with the Metta family. We also save money on our groceries, waste less, get to experiment with new recipes, and always have leftovers in the fridge--all while sharing wonderful food and company every day of the week.

Our food is always vegetarian- and we make an effort to use both local and organic products as much as possible. Through early December, we get a weekly CSA share from a biodynamic farm in upstate NY (Roxbury Farm) We also frequently visit the Greenmarket at 115th & Broadway every Thursday and Sunday.

While most of us share a house dinner every night, Sunday is often the only day of the week that all six of us are all available at once. So, every Sunday is extra special, and we make an extra effort to use local and seasonal ingredients in this meal (and it's a Market day!) With this blog, we hope to share some of our favorite seasonal and healthy meals with you.
